Fact #1 (via Adweek):

Politico’s Allbritton Buys Capital New York

The subscription approach to news is getting a significant boost, with Politico owner Robert Allbritton buying Capital New York with an eye on applying Politico’s business model to the online news site. Allbritton plans to hire more than 24 people and relaunch the site, which was founded in 2010 by ex-New York Observer editors Josh Benson and Tom McGeveran, who will continue to run the news operation.

Fact #2:

Politico launches Capital Playbook, a clone of Mike Allen’s Playbook daily tip sheet.

Welcome to a special, one-day peek for POLITICO Playbook subscribers at Capital Playbook, the first public taste of the expanded and redesigned Capital New York, which re-launches Dec. 3. Capital Playbook is written by Azi Paybarah in Manhattan and Jimmy Vielkind in Albany, with Mike Allen. If you’d enjoy this “Playbook for New York” each weekday morning, please sign up here. http://eepurl.com/I-wQz

Fact #3 (via the Washington Post’s Eric Wemple):

Politico’s Mike Allen, native advertising pioneer

Politico Chief White House Correspondent Mike Allen writes “Playbook,” a daily e-mail newsletter featuring stories from Politico and other outlets, various “exclusives,” tips and birthday notices. It also carries “messages” from big companies and trade associations hoping to reach “Playbook’s” audience of influentials . . .

A review of “Playbook” archives shows that the special interests that pay for slots in the newsletter get adoring coverage elsewhere in the playing field of “Playbook.”

Fact #4 (via the hardtracking staff):

Allen has added Capital Playbook, “a newsletter stemming from Capital New York, the news site that Politico acquired earlier this year,” to his growing roster of daily production.  Presumably Politico Playbook’s branded content – and powderpuff coverage – will tag along with him.

Fact #5:

It did.

From Capital Playbook 12/13/13:

So, what – we’re supposed to know that ** means advertising inserted here?

Seriously?

Mike Alen is abusing you, people.
